What is IV sedation?

IV (intravenous) sedation involves carefully administering a sedative medication through a small cannula placed in a vein, usually in your arm or hand. The medication works quickly to help you feel deeply relaxed and drowsy. Many patients feel calm, peaceful and unaware of time passing.

You will remain conscious and able to respond to your dentist if needed, but you may remember very little about the procedure afterwards.

IV sedation is provided for adults only and is carefully tailored to your individual needs by trained professionals.

Yes. When provided by trained and experienced professionals, IV sedation is a very safe and well-established technique. Your vital signs are carefully monitored throughout, and your treatment is tailored specifically to you.

Most patients feel deeply relaxed and pleasantly drowsy. You will remain conscious and able to respond to your dentist, but you may have little memory of the treatment afterwards.

As the sedative gradually leaves your system, you’ll need to rest for the remainder of the day. You should avoid driving, alcohol, and operating machinery until fully recovered.

Many patients find that positive experiences with sedation help rebuild their confidence. As you become more familiar with the dental team and environment, visits often become easier and less stressful over time.
